Early Treatment

Our patients at Ekim Orthodontics have the advantage of having a well-educated and experienced doctor to help guide them through the orthodontic process. Dr.Suzan Ekim truly loves her patients and wants only the best for her patients. This is why she encourages patients to understand the importance of early orthodontics. Orthodontics is a great choice at any age, but one thing is for certain and that is the optimal age to start. Early evaluation should begin at age seven or at the first sign of orthodontic problems.

What are the benefits of early orthodontic evaluation?

There are so many benefits to starting the orthodontic process early on. The first adult molars start showing up around age 7 which paves the way the back bite will be set. After this happens, the doctor can see what the relationships are like between all of the teeth. Problems are detected earlier which means the issues will be easier to fix or keep from getting worse. Evaluation of teeth coming in the wrong way lets Dr. Ekim monitor growth and development. This gives the doctor the ability to set the way for orthodontic treatment. For example, Dr. Ekim can create room for teeth that haven’t erupted yet.

Why should malocclusions or “crooked teeth” be treated?

Malocclusions can result in variety of problems that are not just cosmetic. Crowded teeth are difficult to brush and floss which can result in tooth decay or gum disease. Teeth that are protruding are more likely to have accidental chipping. Open bites have shown to cause tongue thrusting and speech impediments.
